Nadia Pinardi, Chair of the CoastPredict Programme, recently spoke to Climate Foresight, the CMCC observatory on climate policies and futures, about the role of CoastPredict in enhancing global resilience to climate change and supporting sustainable development through advanced coastal science. Her insights emphasised the importance of cutting-edge technologies and collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by coastal communities and environments.

In her interview, Prof. Pinardi highlighted CoastPredict’s focus on developing innovative prediction systems and enhancing coastal observing and forecasting. Key transformative opportunities lie in the integration of Ocean Digital Twins and expansion of cloud-based computing infrastructure to improve equitable access to data and enable global connectivity. 

Nadia also underscored the CoastPredict Programme’s vision for bridging the gap between scientific research and practical solutions by developing integrated operational observing and predictive models, to deliver data-driven tools and services. These efforts are designed to support policy-makers, local communities, and industries in making informed decisions for risk management and longer-term adaptation to protect coastal ecosystems and communities.
