The mandate of Focus Area 1 Group is to provide a strategic vision, direction, and coordination for Core projects that will reinvent and transform our understanding and quantification of coastal ocean observability and predictability. The complexity (process interconnection, multiscale interactions, human pressures) of the Global Coastal Ocean system compels our Focus Area to invent, co-design, co-develop (together with the support of different stakeholders) and implement an integrated approach to observe and predict the global coastal ocean especially for what concerns the extreme events and the support to globally valid but locally customized solutions for the short lead time forecasting (2 weeks).
