At the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) ,in Belém, Brazil. CoastPredict, in collaboration with the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience (DCC‑CR) and the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC), hosted a side event on 11 November 2025. The event, titled ‘Empowering Coastal Communities: Science‑based Solutions for Resilience and Adaptation’, showcased science-driven, community-centred pathways for enhancing coastal resilience in the face of climate change, emphasizing the integration of scientific research, traditional knowledge, and local experiences.

Moderated by Giulia Galluccio (CMCC), the session featured presentations and discussions that highlighted critical climate-related coastal challenges across regions such as the Tropical Americas, Caribbean, South Pacific, and South-East Asia. The session emphasized the value of global networks such as CoastPredict’s GlobalCoast, linking over 135 pilot sites in 70+ countries under the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) programme, to scale local resilience solutions and support actionable adaptation strategies. Speakers stressed that effective resilience initiatives must start locally, at pilot sites directly facing climate impacts, and scale globally through shared science, innovative technologies, and inclusive knowledge exchange.

By connecting science, and community action at the joint event CoastPredict showcased the global collaboration effort that aims to enhance the resilience of coastal communities. COP30 provided a unique platform to elevate coastal resilience in international climate discussions, highlighting the importance of inclusive, science-informed, and locally grounded adaptation strategies for the most vulnerable coastal regions.
